Gardening Homemaking Homesteading My Garden

Garden Growing and Butter Making

Our garden is growing! It’s so exciting to see everything pop up and get bigger. It’s going much more slowly than I’d like, but I’m trying to be patient… We need more sun. And probably more nutrients in our soil. This is our first year here, so our soil is mostly clay + manure and doesn’t have much else in it yet. I’ve been adding Epsom salts and mulch every so often and the plants seem to like that.

All of our squash varieties. We have zucchini, spaghetti squash, big pumpkins, and little decorative pumpkins.
Our garden rows. Ryan even made his own wood chips for between the rows!
Blueberry
Strawberry
Tomatoes! I have two cherry varieties and a Roma. The cherries seem to be doing better.
Potatoes
Raspberry
My flowers! The lilies will be blooming soon and I can’t wait!!!
My sad little German Chamomile. I moved it to better soil, so hopefully it will pick up soon!
My little nature lover ♡

We made our own butter!

Have you ever tried it? It’s really easy, and really fun to do together as a family! If you use a jar like we did, you’ll need as many people pitching in as possible because your arms get really tired from all the shaking haha. You can use a blender, but I thought it would be fun to do it the old-fashioned way 😉

Literally all you have to do is shake it, then separate the butter from the buttermilk. So simple, and a killer arm workout!
